Malvern Prep's comeback falls short, Downingtown East wins 4-3

Downingtown East came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Malvern Prep, but did just enough to escape with a 4-3 victory.

Downingtown East led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Downingtown East's Jonathan Carreiro scored at 14:58 in the first period to put Downingtown East up 3-0.

Patrick Sterritt had two goals to lead Downingtown East to victory. Sterritt's tallies came at 9:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Downingtown East and 13:20 into the second to make the score 4-2 Downingtown East.

Luca Pisani also scored for Downingtown East. Other players who recorded assists for Downingtown East were Max McAllister, who had one and Harrison Layne and Collin Harple, who each chipped in two.

Malvern Prep excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Malvern Prep was helped by Gabriel Malek, who finished with two goals. Malek scored the first of his two goals at 6:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Downingtown East. Nicholas Martino assisted on the tally. Malek's next tally made the score 4-3 Downingtown East with 19:40 left in the third period. Martino picked up the assist. Malvern Prep additionally got points from Martino, who also had one goal and two assists. In addition, Malvern Prep received assists from James Bell, who had one.

Downingtown East's Jeff Cummings stopped 14 shots out of the 17 that he faced. Downingtown East incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matthew Hollinsghead made 23 saves for Malvern Prep on 27 shots. Malvern Prep incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
