Downingtown West uses big second period to beat Conestoga, 8-1

Downingtown West scored three goals in the second period to pull away from Conestoga and clinch an 8-1 win.

Downingtown West got the win thanks to a great game by Zach Hanaway, who had two goals and two assists. Hanaway scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Downingtown West. Downingtown West had taken the advantage when Conestoga's Will Delaney got sent off for slashing. Hanaway's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Downingtown West with 14:55 left in the second period. Tino Digiorgio picked up the assist.

Downingtown West excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Downingtown West forced Conestoga goalie Luke Robbins to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots. Downingtown West found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Downingtown West averages 3.4 goals per game.

Downingtown West additionally got points from Digiorgio, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Noah Bebee, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and John Michael Owens, who also had one goal and one assist. Drew Barron also scored for Downingtown West. Other players who recorded assists for Downingtown West were Joshua Rikess, who had two.

Conestoga could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Conestoga averages 4.8 goals per game. Conestoga's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Conestoga finished with 44 penalty minutes.

Conestoga was led by Mac Hamblett, who scored the team's only goal. Hamblett scored 52 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Conestoga. Turner Kaufmann provided the assist.

Eric West rejected 23 shots on goal for Downingtown West. Downingtown West incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Luke Robbins made 50 saves for Conestoga on 58 shots.
