Oxford falls to Bishop Shanahan after surprising comebackIceLine Rink 2 Mon, Dec 14, 2015 Bishop Shanahan climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat Oxford, 6-5. Bishop Shanahan let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. Bishop Shanahan took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Gera Poddubnyi at 8:40 in the first period. Bishop Shanahan found itself down 4-2 after Oxford's Zackery Mullen put the puck home at 3:06 in the second period. After tying things up at 5-5 on a goal by Mullen at 11:03 in the third, Bishop Shanahan got the game-winner from Poddubnyi at 13:00 in the third period. Poddubnyi had a great game for Bishop Shanahan, netting six goals. Bishop Shanahan forced Oxford goalie Ryan Snowden to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. In addition, Bishop Shanahan received assists from Patrick ODonohoe, who had two and David Rhoades, Cameron Dowling, and Ryan Conners, who each chipped in one. Oxford excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Oxford's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, Oxford averages 2.7 goals per contest. Jason Paul Maffei also scored for Oxford. Other players who recorded assists for Oxford were Connor Quigley and Alexander Wehner, who contributed one each. Alex DeGarmo recorded 17 saves for Bishop Shanahan. Ryan Snowden made 28 saves for Oxford on 34 shots. Oxford incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities.
