Michigan State University beats Ohio State University 3-1 after comeback scare

The Michigan State University Spartans survived a determined comeback attempt by the Ohio State University Buckeyes on the way to a 3-1 win.

A goal by Breana Kraut put Michigan State University up 3-0 in the third period, but Ohio State University pulled to within two on Melinda Vercollone's tally 16:57 into the third period.

The Spartans were led by Sydney Glanz, who grabbed one goal. Glanz scored 10:32 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Michigan State University. Kraut picked up the assist.

Michigan State University managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Spartans ended up below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game. Michigan State University forced the Buckeyes goalie Emily Ciborek to work between the pipes, taking 62 shots.

Michigan State University also got points from Kraut, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Alexis Smith also scored for Michigan State University. In addition, Michigan State University received assists from Hannah Lensing, Lyndsay Oden, and Kelsey Cross, who contributed one each.

Ohio State University's offense was handcuffed by the Spartans' defensive play, and the Buckeyes managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

More assists for Ohio State University came via Jessica Mccoy, who had one.

Hannah Johnson recorded 13 saves for Michigan State University. The Spartans registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Ohio State University's Ciborek stopped 59 shots out of the 62 that he faced. The Buckeyes avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of one power plays.
