Russo nets hat trick, leads M1 Binghamton University to 8-5 win over M1 Ithaca College

The M1 Ithaca College Bombers could not stop the M1 Binghamton University Bearcats' Peter Russo, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-5 win.

Russo notched his first tally 14:43 into the second period. He then added goals at 16:36 into the second and at 15:50 into the third.

M1 Binghamton University pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Bearcats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. M1 Binghamton University found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Bearcats average 3.8 goals per game. The defensemen of M1 Binghamton University were also effective in M1 Ithaca College's zone, and came away with three goals. The Bearcats put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.1 they average per game.

M1 Binghamton University also got points from Cody Dynarski, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Nick Catrone, who also had one goal and one assist, and Daniel Kowalsky, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. M1 Binghamton University also got a goal from Jonathan Lavis as well. More assists for M1 Binghamton University came via Kyle Lawrence, Christopher Frye, and Cody Klein, who contributed one each.

The Bombers stifled M1 Binghamton University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. M1 Ithaca College's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Bombers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Ithaca College was helped by Andy Rossler, who registered one goal. Rossler scored 11:06 into the third period to make the score 6-5 M1 Binghamton University. M1 Ithaca College also had goals scored by Collin Bradley, Zander Hoke, Ryan Krohto, and Tim Foster, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Ithaca College received assists from Jonathan Lipshutz, Chris Brown, and Liam Barry, who each chipped in one.

Harris Pittinsky recorded 19 saves for the Bearcats. M1 Binghamton University registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. The Bombers' Lipshutz stopped 29 shots out of the 37 that he faced. For M1 Ithaca College, Matt Ambrose, Ryan Murtagh, and Chris Merkel were ejected from the contest.
