M1 Naval Academy ^ United States uses shootout to best M1 Niagara University, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Naval Academy ^ United States Midshipmen defeated the M1 Niagara University Purple Eagles in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. M1 Niagara University's shootout goal was scored by Josh Pietrantonio. M1 Naval Academy ^ United States' other shootout goal was scored by Matthew Caine.

The Midshipmen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.5 shots per game they average.

The Purple Eagles could not produce up to their normal offensive output. M1 Niagara University averages 5.3 goals per game. The Purple Eagles forced M1 Naval Academy ^ United States goalie Matthew Truninger to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

M1 Niagara University was helped by Ryan Peters, who tallied one goal. Peters scored on the power play 10:54 into the third period to make the score 3-3. A charging penalty on Alexander Vandenberg had put the Purple Eagles on the power play. Dalton Bew provided the assist. M1 Niagara University additionally got points from Pietrantonio, who also had one goal and one assist. M1 Niagara University also got a goal from Patrick Gregory as well. In addition, M1 Niagara University received assists from Andrew Mitch and Dallas Szustak, who each chipped in one.

The Midshipmen's Truninger stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. M1 Naval Academy ^ United States incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mike Parda made 23 saves for M1 Niagara University on 26 shots. The Purple Eagles incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
