M1 Rochester College vanquishes M1 Oakland University in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)ONYX 1 Fri, Jan 29, 2016 Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Rochester College Warriors defeated the M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. M1 Oakland University got a shootout goal from Ryan Rotondi. M1 Rochester College's other shootout goal was scored by Brock Malatches.The Warriors came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. M1 Rochester College trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the Golden Grizzlies' Frank Saputo at 14:11 in the third period. The Warriors knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Ryan Jaros at 15:41 in the third period. M1 Rochester College's penalty kill excelled, as the Warriors gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. M1 Rochester College could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The 32 shots that the Warriors put on net surpassed M1 Rochester College's average of 0.7 shots per game this season. Tj Burns also scored for M1 Rochester College. More assists for M1 Rochester College came via Jacob Burford, who had two and Jake Zarzycki and Matt Kadolph, who each chipped in one. M1 Oakland University's offense rang up 39 shots on the Warriors' net. The Golden Grizzlies' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as M1 Oakland University finished with 14 penalty minutes. The Golden Grizzlies were helped by Patrick Smiatacz, who racked up one goal. Smiatacz scored short handed 1:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Oakland University. Ioan Florea assisted on the tally. In addition, M1 Oakland University received assists from Rotondi and Kyle Nelson, who contributed one each. Zakk Olvin rejected 37 shots on goal for M1 Rochester College. The Warriors registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Bryce Goulah recorded 29 saves for M1 Oakland University.
