M1 Davenport University beats M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois 4-2 after comeback scare

The M1 Davenport University Panthers survived a determined comeback attempt by the M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois Eagles on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Everett Thompson put M1 Davenport University up 4-1 in the third period, but M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois pulled to within two on Gavin Burbach's tally 15:29 into the third period.

The Panthers got the win behind a great game by Alex Hulford, who had two goals and one assist. Hulford scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Davenport University. M1 Davenport University had gotten the advantage when the Eagles' Stan Sojka was sent off for interference. Jordan Simmonds picked up the assist. Hulford's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 M1 Davenport University with 16:24 left in the second period. Simmonds assisted on the tally.

With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Panthers exceeded the 3.9 shots they average per game this year.

Louie Abounader also scored for M1 Davenport University. In addition, M1 Davenport University received assists from Cody Walsh, who had one and Chris Eckler, who had two.

M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois was helped by Jake Floro, who grabbed one goal. Floro scored on the power play 19:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Eagles had gained a power play chance when Michael Lozicki was whistled for cross checking. Dan Doyle picked up the assist. More assists for M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois came via Tim Prinz, who had one and Nick Gnagni, who had two.

M1 Davenport University's Devin Rosema stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Justin Ball rejected 37 shots on goal for M1 Robert Morris Univ Illinois. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
