M1 Western Michigan University uses early goal to top M1 Adrian College, 2-0

Brandon Grillo scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the M1 Western Michigan University Stallions held off the challenges of the M1 Adrian College Bulldogs in a tough 2-0 win.

M1 Western Michigan University took over the lead for good with a goal by Grillo at 12:52 in the first period. Matt Shultz picked up the assist.

The Stallions were boosted by Brandon Haase, who turned in a shutout with 40 saves. The solid play of Haase will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.68.

M1 Adrian College's power play was ineffective against M1 Western Michigan University's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Stallions excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.

Casey O doherty also scored for M1 Western Michigan University.

The Bulldogs stifled M1 Western Michigan University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. M1 Adrian College did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bulldogs average 3.2 goals per game. M1 Adrian College's offense rang up 40 shots on the Stallions' net. The Bulldogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Western Michigan University incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Matthew Schnoes made 16 saves for M1 Adrian College on 18 shots.
