Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Minot State University Beavers defeated M1 Midland University in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

M1 Minot State University saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Beavers made the score 3-1 on a goal by Brett Nespor at 50 seconds in the second period. M1 Midland University evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kyle Whipple at 11:55 in the third period.

M1 Minot State University's penalty kill excelled, as the Beavers gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

M1 Minot State University racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Beavers had been spending in the box. M1 Minot State University stifled M1 Midland University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 43 shots that the Beavers put on net surpassed M1 Minot State University's average of 5.3 shots per game this season.

The Beavers were helped by Cole Olson, who finished with one goal. Olson scored on the power play 14:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Minot State University. A hooking penalty on Evan Anderson had put M1 Minot State University on the power play. Bryce Lipinski picked up the assist. Sam Briscoe also scored for M1 Minot State University. More assists for M1 Minot State University came via Brett Mcnevin, who had one.

With 24 shots on target during the contest, M1 Midland University exceeded the 12.9 shots it averages per game this year. M1 Midland University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Midland University also got points from Ben Henry, who also registered one goal and one assist. M1 Midland University also got a goal from Jason Henry as well. In addition, M1 Midland University received assists from Bradley Hepler, who had two and Sam Turner and Taylor McConnell, who contributed one each.

The Beavers' Holden Kurtz stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. M1 Minot State University registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Jarin Aden made 39 saves for M1 Midland University on 42 shots.
