M1 Minot State University vanquishes M1 Midland University in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)Maysa Arena Sat, Jan 30, 2016 Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Minot State University Beavers defeated M1 Midland University in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.M1 Minot State University saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Beavers made the score 3-1 on a goal by Brett Nespor at 50 seconds in the second period. M1 Midland University evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kyle Whipple at 11:55 in the third period. M1 Minot State University's penalty kill excelled, as the Beavers gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays. M1 Minot State University racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Beavers had been spending in the box. M1 Minot State University stifled M1 Midland University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 43 shots that the Beavers put on net surpassed M1 Minot State University's average of 5.3 shots per game this season. The Beavers were helped by Cole Olson, who finished with one goal.
