Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Duquesne University Dukes defeated the M1 Pittsburgh University of Panthers in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

M1 Duquesne University saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Dukes made the score 4-2 on a goal by Arthur Birman at 5:18 in the third period. M1 Pittsburgh University of evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Cole Snyder at 12:52 in the third period.

M1 Duquesne University forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Dukes had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. M1 Duquesne University bested its season scoring average. The Dukes average 2.9 goals per game. M1 Duquesne University put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.1 it averages per game.

The Dukes were helped by Tim Freed, who registered three goals. M1 Duquesne University also got points from Birman, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points.
