M1 West Chester University vanquishes M1 Rutgers University in shootout, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 West Chester University Golden Rams defeated the M1 Rutgers University Scarlet Knights in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

M1 West Chester University overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Golden Rams fell behind 1-0 after a goal by M1 Rutgers University's Brenden Siegel at 2:08 in the third period. M1 West Chester University tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Joseph Gibbs at 3:27 in the third period.

The Golden Rams' Michael Rice was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 43 saves and let only one puck past him. Rice certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.12 entering the contest.

M1 West Chester University stifled the Scarlet Knights' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

In addition, M1 West Chester University received assists from james Davis, who had one.

M1 Rutgers University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Scarlet Knights did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. M1 Rutgers University averages 3.7 goals per game. The Scarlet Knights' offense rang up 44 shots on the Golden Rams' net.

More assists for M1 Rutgers University came via Matt Langlois, who had one.

M1 West Chester University incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. M1 Rutgers University's Christopher Marsillo stopped 14 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Scarlet Knights incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
