Smiths Falls Midget AAA rides Renaud to victory over Brockville Midget AAA, 5-1

The Smiths Falls Midget AAA Bears relied on the sparkling performance of Kyle Renaud in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Brockville Midget AAA Braves.

Brockville Midget AAA was stymied by Smiths Falls Midget AAA's netminder Renaud, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Renaud certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.31 entering the contest.

The Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Brockville Midget AAA power plays. Smiths Falls Midget AAA kept the Braves' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Green made 33 saves on 38 shots. The Bears' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Smiths Falls Midget AAA averages 2.7 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Bears were led by Sebastien Semerdjiev, who registered one goal and three assists. Semerdjiev scored on the power play 16:12 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Smiths Falls Midget AAA. A tripping penalty on Brett Lannin had put Smiths Falls Midget AAA on the power play. Willem Larsen picked up the assist. Smiths Falls Midget AAA also had goals scored by Chris Bernard, Ethan Coltart, Michael Hogan, and Josh Bifolchi, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls Midget AAA received assists from Matthew Bidin, Blake Kettyle, Nathaniel Watson, and Connor Drost, who each chipped in one.

Brockville Midget AAA forced the Bears goalie Renaud to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Braves struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Brockville Midget AAA was led by Serron Noel, who scored the team's only goal. Noel scored 3:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brockville Midget AAA. Ben Davy assisted on the tally.

Smiths Falls Midget AAA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
