Carleton Place Midget AAA beats Hawkesbury Midget AAA 3-2 after comeback scare

The Hawkesbury Midget AAA Hawks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Midget AAA Canadians would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Carleton Place Midget AAA took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Hawkesbury Midget AAA storm back on a Martin Lavigne goal 14:55 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Canadians' offense rang up 37 shots on the Hawks' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Carleton Place Midget AAA could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Canadians were helped by Scott Gervais, who had one goal. Gervais scored 11:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place Midget AAA. Ryan Bangs picked up the assist. Others who scored for Carleton Place Midget AAA included Brayden Campeau and Anthony Douchant, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place Midget AAA were Dale Kilby, who had one and Liam Markhauser and Spencer Marshall, who contributed two each.

Hawkesbury Midget AAA kept Carleton Place Midget AAA's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Cuglietta made 34 saves on 36 shots. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Hawkesbury Midget AAA finished with 20 penalty minutes.

The Hawks were helped by Luke Paquette, who registered one goal. Paquette scored short handed 12:32 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place Midget AAA. Hawkesbury Midget AAA was on a disadvantage when Shownahnonkon Thompson went off the ice for hit to the head. Brandon Legare assisted on the tally. In addition, Hawkesbury Midget AAA received assists from Ryan Wells, who had one.

The Canadians registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Connor Morris made 34 saves for the Hawks on 37 shots. Hawkesbury Midget AAA registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
