Cumberland Midget AAA beats Cornwall Midget AAA 7-4 as Cannell gets hat trick

A hat trick by Roman Cannell was the highlight in Grads' 7-4 win against the Cornwall Midget AAA Colts.

Cannell's first goal came 35 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 11:16 into the second and at 10:29 into the third.

The Cumberland Midget AAA Grads forced Cornwall Midget AAA's goalies to work without much rest, firing 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Greg Brassard made 25 stops and Grant Craig made seven. Cumberland Midget AAA bested its season scoring average. This season, the Grads average 3.9 goals per contest. Cumberland Midget AAA's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Grads finished with 14 penalty minutes.

Cumberland Midget AAA also got points from Zakary Rodrigue, who also registered one goal and two assists and Alex Robert, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Cumberland Midget AAA also had goals scored by Liam Peyton and Wil Murray, who each put in one. In addition, Cumberland Midget AAA received assists from Andrew Robichaud, Tristan Francis, Daniel Mellon, and Mathieu Plante, who each chipped in one.

The Colts got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cornwall Midget AAA was helped by Ethan Mulhearn, who had one goal. Mulhearn scored on the power play 6:06 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Cumberland Midget AAA. The Colts earned a power play opportunity when Noah Johnston was put in the box for cross checking. Adam Paquette provided the assist. Others who scored for Cornwall Midget AAA included Mathew Harrington, Taran Fiacco, and Noah Konink, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall Midget AAA were Jonah Peters, Hunter Duchesne, and Samuel Ferland, who contributed one each.

Kai Edmonds rejected 16 shots on goal for Cumberland Midget AAA. The Grads registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Cornwall Midget AAA incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Colts ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Benjamin Dirven was ejected from the game.
