Smiths Falls Midget AAA beats OHA U17 Midget AAA 4-2 after comeback scare

The Smiths Falls Midget AAA Bears survived a determined comeback attempt by the OHA U17 Midget AAA OHA U16 on the way to a 4-2 win.

Smiths Falls Midget AAA made the score 4-1 on a goal by Josh Bifolchi at 14:32 in the second period, and OHA U17 Midget AAA got as close as 4-2 when Shane Ford scored 3:57 into the third period.

The Bears stifled the OHA U16's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Smiths Falls Midget AAA was led by Mackenzie Mercier, who racked up one goal and one assist. Mercier scored on the power play 11:09 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Smiths Falls Midget AAA. The Bears had gotten the advantage when OHA U17 Midget AAA's Andre Guldbrandsen was sent off for tripping. Dylan McMahon picked up the assist. Smiths Falls Midget AAA also got points from McMahon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Blake Kettyle also scored for Smiths Falls Midget AAA. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls Midget AAA were Brock Boisclair, Sebastien Semerdjiev, Spencer Shahen, and Connor Drost, who contributed one each.

OHA U17 Midget AAA also got a goal from Thomas Callaghan as well. In addition, OHA U17 Midget AAA received assists from Tim Kobler, who had one.

Kyle Renaud rejected 19 shots on goal for Smiths Falls Midget AAA. The Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tyler Caseley took the loss and made seven saves before being replaced by Dillon Lamarche who made eight saves. The OHA U16 incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
