Sherwood nets hat trick, leads Devils to 11-2 win over Road Warriors

Road Warriors could not stop Devils' Brett Sherwood, who tallied a hat trick in an 11-2 win.

Sherwood's first goal came 8:28 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:14 into the first and at 6:56 into the second.

Devils managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Devils ended up below its season average of 5.0 penalty minutes per game. Devils' offense rang up 36 shots on Road Warriors' net. Devils bested its season scoring average. Devils has scored at the pace of 8.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Devils' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Devils also got points from Kevin Fenwick, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Rajin Khera, who also registered two goals and three assists, Kyle Izatt, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Bic Banwait, who also racked up three goals and one assist, and Ryan Clarke, who also had one goal and two assists. In addition, Devils received assists from Sanjay Mahindru, who had two.

Road Warriors' offense operated below its season average. Road Warriors averages 4.3 goals per game.

Road Warriors was helped by Nathan Gibbs, who registered two goals. Gibbs scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Road Warriors. Road Warriors had gotten the advantage when Devils' Mahindru was sent off for delay of game. Markus Lohuaru assisted on the tally. Gibbs' next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Road Warriors with 14:47 left in the first period. Lohuaru provided the assist.

Sean Simms recorded 23 saves for Devils. Devils registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Tom Misar made 25 saves for Road Warriors on 36 shots. Road Warriors ended with no penalties and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
