M1 Kent State University uses shootout to best M1 Duquesne University, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Kent State University Golden Flashes defeated the M1 Duquesne University Dukes in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 18 turns to complete the shootout.

M1 Kent State University saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Golden Flashes made the score 3-1 on a goal by Jake Hainline at 18:17 in the second period. M1 Duquesne University evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zak Kindya at 13:32 in the third period.

M1 Kent State University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dukes to score on any of their five power plays. The Golden Flashes forced M1 Duquesne University goalie Michael Dginto to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

M1 Kent State University was helped by Jared Fielden, who registered one goal. Fielden scored 6:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Kent State University. Curtis Swan provided the assist. Casey Barile also scored for M1 Kent State University. In addition, M1 Kent State University received assists from Caleb Gannelli, Kyle Schaefer, and Xavier Sudlow, who contributed one each.

The 28 shots that the Dukes put on net surpassed M1 Duquesne University's average of 0.9 shots per game this season.

The Dukes were helped by Arthur Birman, who finished with one goal. Birman scored 17:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 Kent State University. M1 Duquesne University also got points from Kindya, who also had one goal and one assist and Eric Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist.

Sebastian Ragno recorded 25 saves for the Golden Flashes. M1 Kent State University incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Michael Dginto made 38 saves for M1 Duquesne University on 41 shots. The Dukes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
