M1 Ohio University shrugs off penalties, upends M1 Pittsburgh University of, 4-1

The M1 Ohio University Bobcats' penalty kill was superb, as M1 Ohio University survived multiple penalties to beat the M1 Pittsburgh University of Panthers, 4-1.

The Bobcats were paced by Matthew Hartman, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hartman scored 12:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 M1 Ohio University. Liam Geither picked up the assist.

M1 Ohio University racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Bobcats had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. M1 Ohio University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M1 Pittsburgh University of to score on any of its six power plays. The Bobcats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 25 shots on goal during the game, better than the 5.5 shots per game they average.

M1 Ohio University also got points from Matthew Rudin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for M1 Ohio University included Derek Rahme and Patrick Spellacy, who each put in one. More assists for M1 Ohio University came via Michael Harris, Joey Breslin, and Cody Black, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers struggled to put together a cohesive attack and finished with a mere 12 shots over the course of the game. However, M1 Pittsburgh University of launched more shots in the game than the 1.8 per game it averages. The Panthers' offense operated below their season average. M1 Pittsburgh University of puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. The Panthers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Ohio University's Ryan Heltion stopped 11 shots out of the 12 that he faced. The Bobcats registered one goal on six power play opportunities. M1 Ohio University ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Breslin was ejected from the game. Ben Cirba made 21 saves for M1 Pittsburgh University of on 25 shots.
