Kanata Midget AAA uses early goal to top Nepean Midget AAA, 3-1

Bennett Stockdale scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Kanata Midget AAA Lasers held off the challenges of the Nepean Midget AAA Raiders in a tough 3-1 win.

Kanata Midget AAA took over the lead for good with a goal by Stockdale at 4:42 in the first period. The Lasers had gotten the advantage when Nepean Midget AAA's Robbie Pickard was sent off for roughing. David Silye assisted on the tally.

Kanata Midget AAA pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Lasers were sparked by Mack Miller, who had one goal and one assist. Miller scored 4:26 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Kanata Midget AAA. Adam Church picked up the assist.

Kanata Midget AAA excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Lasers forced the Raiders goalie Anand Oberoi to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Kanata Midget AAA also got points from Church, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Kanata Midget AAA came via Nathan MacKechnie, who had one.

Nepean Midget AAA was held below its usual level of production. The Raiders put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

Nepean Midget AAA was led by Matt Arial, who scored the team's only goal. Arial scored 12:00 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kanata Midget AAA. Kyle Kuehni assisted on the tally.

Kanata Midget AAA's Jean-Philippe Tourigny stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Lasers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Anand Oberoi made 34 saves for the Raiders on 37 shots. Nepean Midget AAA incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
