KINGSTON beats SOUTHWEST 3-0 as Morton gains shutout

KINGSTON used a sparkling performance by Whitney Morton to take down SOUTHWEST, as the netminder did not allow a goal in KINGSTON's 3-0 shutout victory.

KINGSTON was led by Hayley Williams, who finished with one goal. Williams scored 8:06 into the second period to make the score 1-0 KINGSTON. Brianna Gaffney (C) provided the assist.

KINGSTON excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. KINGSTON was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. KINGSTON allows 2.7 goals per game. KINGSTON's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, KINGSTON averages 0.8 goals per contest.

KINGSTON also got points from Gaffney (C), who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. KINGSTON also got a goal from Marissa Murphy as well. In addition, KINGSTON received assists from Abby deHaan and Hannah Scaletta, who each chipped in one.

SOUTHWEST's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine KINGSTON power plays. SOUTHWEST forced KINGSTON goalie Morton to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. SOUTHWEST's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as SOUTHWEST finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Morton recorded 35 saves for KINGSTON. KINGSTON incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. SOUTHWEST's starting goalie, Emily OBright, made 25 saves and finished with the loss before she was taken out in favor of Vanessa Despenic, who stopped zero shots.
