WATERLOO blows out SOUTHWEST, 5-0

WATERLOO had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-0 win over SOUTHWEST.

SOUTHWEST's power play was ineffective against WATERLOO's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

WATERLOO was paced by Sarah Rettinger, who finished with one goal and one assist. Rettinger scored 11:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 WATERLOO. Becky Higgs picked up the assist.

WATERLOO stifled SOUTHWEST's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. WATERLOO outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, WATERLOO averages 1.9 goal per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

WATERLOO additionally got points from Carley Olivier, who also registered one goal and one assist. WATERLOO also had goals scored by Megan Bates, Kelsey Dixon, and Megan Johnston, who each put in one. More assists for WATERLOO came via Lexi Templeman, who had two and Megan Fergusson and Jennifer Newcombe, who contributed one each.

SOUTHWEST's penalty kill unit could not stop WATERLOO's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Jillian Tsandelis (PU) made 16 saves for WATERLOO on 16 shots. WATERLOO incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. SOUTHWEST's Vanessa Despenic stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that she faced. SOUTHWEST incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
