DURHAM WEST wins tough contest against BLUEWATER, 4-2

DURHAM WEST gutted out a close 4-2 win against BLUEWATER.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Maria Dominico secured the win for DURHAM WEST with a goal in the second period.

DURHAM WEST got the win behind a great game by Dominico, who had two goals and one assist. Dominico scored the first of her two goals at 1:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 DURHAM WEST. Charlea Pedersen assisted on the tally. Dominico's next tally made the score 4-2 DURHAM WEST with 12:40 left in the second period. Kirsten MacDougall (A) picked up the assist.

BLUEWATER's power play was ineffective against DURHAM WEST's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

DURHAM WEST's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven BLUEWATER power plays. DURHAM WEST's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as DURHAM WEST finished with 14 penalty minutes.

DURHAM WEST also had goals scored by Taylor Hicks and Jaden Head, who each put in one. In addition, DURHAM WEST received assists from Samantha McKenzie (C), Alexandra Maw, and Natalie Wozney, who contributed one each.

BLUEWATER was helped by Sierra Burt, who registered one goal. Burt scored 29 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 BLUEWATER. Emma Forcey assisted on the tally. BLUEWATER also got a goal from Tyler Way as well. Other players who recorded assists for BLUEWATER were Emily John and Madison Melo, who each chipped in one.

DURHAM WEST's Danika Ranger stopped 16 shots out of the 18 that she faced. DURHAM WEST registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Holly Scott made 23 saves for BLUEWATER on 27 shots. BLUEWATER incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
