M1 Stony Brook University's Calello deadly on offense in 4-1 win against M1 Rutgers University

The M1 Stony Brook University Seawolves relied on the scoring touch of Brendan Calello, who netted two goals, to beat the M1 Rutgers University Scarlet Knights, 4-1.

Calello scored at 14:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Stony Brook University and again while 11:15 into the second to make the score 2-0 M1 Stony Brook University.

M1 Rutgers University was stymied by M1 Stony Brook University's netminder Derek Willms, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Willms managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.06 prior to the game.

The Seawolves' penalty kill excelled, as M1 Stony Brook University gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Seawolves stifled the Scarlet Knights' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. M1 Stony Brook University's offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 4.5 shots per game it averages. The Seawolves were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 18 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for M1 Stony Brook University included Brian Boser and Michael Cartwright, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Stony Brook University were Dalton Gilbert, who had two and Justin Lazalde, Matthew Gervasi, and Andrew Cetola, who contributed one each.

M1 Rutgers University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M1 Stony Brook University to score on any of its seven power plays. The Scarlet Knights did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. M1 Rutgers University averages 3.1 goals per game. By firing 27 shots on goal, the Scarlet Knights exceeded the 2.4 shots they average per game this year. M1 Rutgers University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Scarlet Knights were led by Patrick Jarczewski, who scored the team's only goal. Jarczewski scored 1:48 into the third period to make the score 3-1 M1 Stony Brook University. Brian Gnad provided the assist.

M1 Rutgers University's Christopher Marsillo stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced.
