Knoxville rides Billett to victory over Louisiana, 2-1

The Knoxville Ice Bears relied on the sparkling performance of Brian Billett in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Louisiana IceGators.

Knoxville was led by Doug Reid, who tallied one goal. Reid scored 12:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Trever Hertz assisted on the tally.

The Ice Bears relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Reid, Hertz and Zack LaRue took 12 of the team's 23 shots.

Knoxville also got a goal from Adam Sedlak as well. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Corey Hale and Danny Cesarz, who contributed one each.

By firing 29 shots on goal, Louisiana exceeded the 24.6 shots it averages per game this year. The IceGators' defensemen bolstered Louisiana's offensive attack, as they bombarded Billett with 12 shots.

The IceGators were led by Mike Kavanagh, who scored the team's only goal. Kavanagh scored on the power play 8:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Louisiana had taken the advantage when Knoxville's Jake Flegel got sent off for illegal check to the head. Jeremy Boyer picked up the assist.

Billett rejected 28 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Adam Courchaine recorded 21 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
