John Daniels scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Louisiana IceGators held off the challenges of the Columbus Cottonmouths in a tough 5-3 win. Louisiana took over the lead for good with a goal by Daniels at 8:54 in the first period. Brad Bourke picked up the assist.The IceGators were led by Massimo Lamacchia, who had one goal and one assist. Lamacchia scored on the power play 17:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Louisiana. Louisiana had gotten the advantage when Columbus' Kyle Johnson was sent off for roughing. Tanner Burton assisted on the tally. In a losing effort, the Cottonmouths were sparked by Kyle Shapiro, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Shapiro scored the first of his two goals short handed at 16:53 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Louisiana. Alex Pompeo picked up the assist. Shapiro's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 Louisiana with 18:59 left in the third period. Pompeo provided the assist. The IceGators surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Louisiana averages 2.7 goals per contest. The IceGators' offense was clicking better than usual and put 49 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.6 shots per game they average. Louisiana additionally got points from Jake Hauswirth, who also registered one goal and one assist. Louisiana also had goals scored by Tyler Prendergast and Matt Robertson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Blake Hietala, who had two and Mike Kavanagh and Zac Frischmon, who each chipped in one. Columbus put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.3 it averages per game. The Cottonmouths' defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 14 shots. Columbus could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Chad Bennett also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Ben OQuinn and Patrick McCadden, who contributed one each. Brad Barone recorded 27 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cottonmouths' Brandon Jaeger stopped 44 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Columbus registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Cottonmouths, Alex Kromm was ejected from the game.
