Fayetteville wins tough contest against Columbus, 4-2

The game between the Fayetteville FireAntz and the Columbus Cottonmouths was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Fayetteville emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Josh McQuade's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The FireAntz were sparked by Kyle Gibbons, who had one goal and one assist. Gibbons scored 13:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fayetteville. McQuade picked up the assist.

By firing 34 shots on goal, Fayetteville exceeded the 25.5 shots it averages per game this year.

Fayetteville also got points from McQuade, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also had goals scored by Nick Lazorko and Chris Porter, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Graeme Strukoff, who had two and Steven Hoshaw, Tayler Thompson, and Devin Stuermer, who each chipped in one.

With 22 shots on target during the contest, Columbus exceeded the 17.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Cottonmouths were helped by Chris Rial, who grabbed one goal. Rial scored 14:10 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Fayetteville. Patrick Murphy assisted on the tally. Columbus additionally got points from Murphy, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Columbus received assists from Cody Freeman, who had one.

The FireAntz's Parker Van Buskirk stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Fayetteville totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Brandon Jaeger made 30 saves for Columbus on 34 shots. The Cottonmouths totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
