The Columbus Cottonmouths used a sparkling performance by Brandon Jaeger to take down the Fayetteville FireAntz, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Columbus' 2-0 shutout victory. The Cottonmouths were led by Craig Simchuk, who tallied one goal. Simchuk scored on the power play 17:51 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Columbus had gotten the advantage when Fayetteville's Andrew Darrigo was sent off for hooking. Kyle Shapiro picked up the assist. The Cottonmouths excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Columbus put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.1 it averages per game. Shawn Bates also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Andy Bathgate and Al Graves, who contributed one each. The FireAntz were held below their usual level of production. Fayetteville averages 2.9 goals per game. The FireAntz's defensemen bolstered Fayetteville's offensive attack, as they bombarded Jaeger with 20 shots. With 48 shots on target during the contest, the FireAntz exceeded the 25.3 shots they average per game this year. Fayetteville was led by Chris Porter, who took six shots. Jaeger recorded 48 saves for the Cottonmouths. Columbus incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The FireAntz's Parker Van Buskirk stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Fayetteville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
