Knoxville wins tough contest against Columbus, 4-2

The Knoxville Ice Bears and the Columbus Cottonmouths were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Knoxville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Ice Bears gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Beasley 11:40 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Beasley was all over the ice for Knoxville, as he registered two goals in the win.

The Ice Bears stifled Columbus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Knoxville also had goals scored by Corey Fulton and Dennis Sicard, who each put in one. More assists for Knoxville came via Garrett Vermeersch, who had three and Rich Ledy, Trever Hertz, John Clewlow, and Danny Cesarz, who each chipped in one.

The Cottonmouths put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.8 they average per game.

Columbus was helped by Kyle Shapiro, who tallied one goal. Shapiro scored 7:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Tyler Henry picked up the assist. Columbus also got a goal from Craig Simchuk as well. In addition, Columbus received assists from Ben OQuinn and Andy Bathgate, who contributed one each.

Knoxville's Brian Billett stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Ice Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brandon Jaeger rejected 18 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
