Pensacola squeaks by Peoria, 3-2Pensacola Bay Center Fri, Mar 18, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pensacola Ice Flyers gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Peoria Rivermen. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Joe Caveney secured the win for Pensacola with a goal in the second period. Caveney had two goals to lead the Ice Flyers to victory. Pensacola could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 25.5 shots they average per game this year. Pensacola additionally got points from Stephen Buco, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Adam Pawlick, who had two and Charlie Adams, Joseph Holka, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in one. Team could not crack Pensacola's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. The 37 shots that Peoria put on net surpassed the Rivermen's average of 28.9 shots per game this season. Peoria was helped by Cody Dion, who tallied one goal. Dion scored on the power play 13:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Rivermen had gotten the advantage when the Ice Flyers' Drew Baker was sent off for interference. Dave Pszenyczny picked up the assist. Peoria also got points from Pszenyczny, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Peoria received assists from Connor P. Toomey, who had one and Brandon Greenside, who had two. John McLean recorded 35 saves for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. David Jacobson made 37 saves for Peoria on 40 shots. The Rivermen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
