Fayetteville uses shootout to best Mississippi RiverKings, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

The Fayetteville FireAntz and Mississippi RiverKings both failed to score in overtime, but Fayetteville won the game 5-4 (2-1 SO) after Tayler Thompson's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Mississippi RiverKings' shootout goal was scored by Matt Harrington. The FireAntz's other shootout goal was scored by Cole Wilson.

Fayetteville came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The FireAntz was down 4-3 after a goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Todd Hosmer at 3:01 in the third period. Fayetteville knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kyle Gibbons at 12:35 in the third period.

The FireAntz got the win behind a great game by Gibbons, who had two goals and two assists. Gibbons scored the first of his two goals at 1:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Josh McQuade assisted on the tally. Gibbons' next tally made the score 4-4 with 7:25 left in the third period. Nick Lazorko picked up the assist.

The 34 shots that Fayetteville put on net surpassed the FireAntz's average of 24.0 shots per game this season.

Fayetteville also got points from Lazorko, who also finished with one goal and three assists and McQuade, who also had one goal and three assists.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 25.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Cullen Bradshaw, who also registered one goal and one assist. Bret Peppler also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Mike Grace, who had two and Dillan Fox, Linden Bahm, Donald Olivieri, and Stathis Soumelidis, who each chipped in one.

Parker Van Buskirk recorded 26 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz ended with no penalties and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Peter Di Salvo made 29 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 33 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities.
