John McLean was superb between the pipes for the Pensacola Ice Flyers, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths. Pensacola was paced by Josh Cousineau, who had one goal. Cousineau scored 16:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Corey Banfield picked up the assist. The Ice Flyers stifled Columbus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pensacola's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Ice Flyers gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. By firing 40 shots on goal, Pensacola exceeded the 26.3 shots it averages per game this year. Others who scored for Pensacola included Joseph Holka and Joe Caveney, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pensacola came via Drew Baker, Stephen Buco, Brandon Zurn, and Charlie Adams, who each chipped in one. The Cottonmouths put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Flyers to score on any of their three power plays. Columbus could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Cottonmouths put an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game. The 26 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 20.6 shots per game this season. Columbus was led by Kyle Shapiro, who took four shots. McLean recorded 26 saves for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Shannon Szabados made 37 saves for the Cottonmouths on 40 shots. Columbus incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
