Rank stymies Pensacola, Peoria wins 3-1

Kyle Rank had a standout game with 30 saves, and the Peoria Rivermen beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers 3-1.

Peoria was sparked by Steve Morra, who tallied one goal. Morra scored 15:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Cody Dion assisted on the tally.

The Rivermen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pensacola to score on any of its three power plays. Peoria put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.1 it averages per game.

Others who scored for Peoria included Mike Gurtler and Matt Summers, who scored one goal each. More assists for Peoria came via Daniel Turgeon, Connor P. Toomey, and Ben Oskroba, who contributed one each.

The Ice Flyers stifled the Rivermen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Peoria was unable to stop Pensacola from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ice Flyers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Pensacola was led by Joe Caveney, who scored the team's only goal. Caveney scored 11:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Corey Banfield picked up the assist.

The Rivermen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Ice Flyers' John McLean stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Pensacola incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
