Louisiana rides Courchaine to victory over Macon Mayhem, 3-1Cajundome Sun, Feb 28, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators relied on the sparkling performance of Adam Courchaine in net to grab a 3-1 win against Macon Mayhem. Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Louisiana was led by Dan Cornell, who registered one goal. Cornell scored 3:02 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Blake Hietala picked up the assist. The IceGators stifled Macon Mayhem's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Louisiana relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jordan Ciccarello, Jake Hauswirth and Geordie Wudrick took 13 of the team's 25 shots. The IceGators' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 11 shots between them. Louisiana also got points from Zac Frischmon, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Hietala, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Louisiana came via Travis Armstrong, Luke Sandler, and Jeremy Boyer, who contributed one each. Macon Mayhem forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Macon Mayhem had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. By firing 27 shots on goal, Macon Mayhem exceeded the 22.3 shots it averages per game this year. Macon Mayhem was led by Lucas LaBelle, who scored the team's only goal. LaBelle scored 4:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Macon Mayhem. Jeff Sanders assisted on the tally. Louisiana's Courchaine stopped 26 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The IceGators totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Curtis Martinu rejected 22 shots on goal for Macon Mayhem. For Macon Mayhem, LaBelle was ejected from the game.
