Fayetteville outlasts Macon Mayhem, 4-2Crown Coliseum Sun, Feb 21, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fayetteville FireAntz and Macon Mayhem were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fayetteville made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. The FireAntz gained the winning advantage on a goal by Joseph Manno 17:03 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Manno was all over the ice for Fayetteville, as he had two goals in the win. The FireAntz forced Macon Mayhem goalie Garrett Bartus to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Fayetteville additionally got points from Kyle Gibbons, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Josh McQuade, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Brad Plumton, who had two and Michael Montagna and Michael Beaudry, who each chipped in one. The defense for Macon Mayhem played an important role offensively, racking up nine shots on goal. Macon Mayhem was helped by Michael Wills, who grabbed one goal. Wills scored 5:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Macon Mayhem. Travis Howe provided the assist. Macon Mayhem also got a goal from Stephen Pierog as well. Other players who recorded assists for Macon Mayhem were Ryan Michel, Daniel Gentzler, and Shawn Skelly, who contributed one each. Parker Van Buskirk rejected 20 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Garrett Bartus made 29 saves for Macon Mayhem on 32 shots. Macon Mayhem totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Macon Mayhem ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Howe was ejected from the game.
