Wilson's goals lift Peoria to 6-2 victory over Louisiana

The Peoria Rivermen relied on the scoring touch of Chris Wilson, who netted two goals, to beat the Louisiana IceGators, 6-2.

Wilson found the back of the net on the power play 3:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria and again while 2:38 into the third to make the score 4-2 Peoria.

Peoria was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Rivermen had been spending in the box. Peoria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Rivermen surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Peoria has scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Rivermen exceeded the 25.4 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria also got points from Connor P. Toomey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Adam Stuart also scored for Peoria. More assists for Peoria came via Mark Corbett, Dave Pszenyczny, Brandon Greenside, Alec Hagaman, Matt Summers, Walker Wintoneak, Ben Power, and Steve Morra, who each chipped in one.

Louisiana forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The IceGators surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Louisiana put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.3 it averages per game.

The IceGators were helped by Blake Hietala, who finished with one goal. Hietala scored 16:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Peoria. John Daniels provided the assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Zac Frischmon as well. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jake Hauswirth, who had one.

Peoria's Kyle Rank stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Rivermen registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Louisiana's starting goalie, Adam Courchaine, made 27 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Andy DiCristofaro, who stopped five shots. For the IceGators, Tyler Barr was ejected from the game.
