Louisiana wins tough contest against Peoria, 4-3Peoria Civic Center Sat, Feb 13, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Louisiana IceGators escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Peoria Rivermen. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Zac Frischmon's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Louisiana got the win behind a great game by Luke Sandler, who had two goals and two assists. Sandler scored the first of his two goals at 4:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. John Daniels picked up the assist. Sandler's next tally made the score 2-0 Louisiana with 5:25 left in the first period. The IceGators earned a power play opportunity when Connor P. Toomey was put in the box for roughing. Jake Hauswirth provided the assist. Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Louisiana stifled Peoria's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceGators relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Hauswirth, Daniels and Sandler took 23 of the team's 42 shots. Louisiana could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game. Louisiana additionally got points from Frischmon, who also tallied two goals and one assist. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Mike Kavanagh, who had one. The Rivermen put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.4 they average per game. Peoria found itself short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays. The Rivermen were led by Walker Wintoneak, who had one goal and one assist. Wintoneak scored 1:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Ben Power picked up the assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Dave Pszenyczny and Chris Wilson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Steve Morra, who had one and Jack Callahan, who had two. Adam Courchaine made 36 saves for the IceGators on 39 shots. Peoria's David Jacobson stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced.
