Columbus completes comeback, beats Huntsville, 4-3

Undaunted by a three-goal deficit, the Columbus Cottonmouths battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Columbus never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Cottonmouths trailed 3-0 after a goal by Huntsville's John Lidgett at 14:31 in the first period. Columbus knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Patrick McCadden at 17:39 in the second period. The Cottonmouths got the game winner at 2:48 in the third period on a goal by McCadden.

Brandon Jaeger spearheaded the defensive effort for Columbus, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 27 saves for the shutout. Jaeger certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.86 entering the contest.

With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 22.3 shots they average per game this year.

Columbus was led by Vladyslav Gavrik, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Columbus also had goals scored by Kyle Johnson and Tyler Henry, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Levi Lind, who had two and Ben OQuinn, Andy Bathgate, Andy Willigar, and Chad Bennett, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.3 shots per game they average.

Huntsville was helped by Bo Driscoll, who had one goal. Driscoll scored on the power play 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. The Havoc had gained a power play chance when Lind was whistled for holding. Jackson Brewer picked up the assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Nolan Kaiser, who had one and Garrick Perry and Matt Robertson, who each chipped in two.

The Cottonmouths totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Kevin Genoe recorded 30 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
