Louisiana vanquishes Mississippi RiverKings in shootout, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Geordie Wudrick scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Louisiana IceGators picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-1 SO) win over Mississippi RiverKings.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Mississippi RiverKings' shootout goal was scored by Charles Mosey. Louisiana's other shootout goals were scored by Jake Hauswirth and Wudrick.

The IceGators overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana trailed 2-1 after a short handed goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Linden Bahm at 13:32 in the third period. The IceGators tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Wudrick at 13:59 in the third period.

Wudrick had two goals to lead Louisiana to victory.

The IceGators were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Louisiana surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The IceGators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Mississippi RiverKings power plays. Louisiana put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.9 it averages per game.

The IceGators were led by Wudrick, who registered two goals. Wudrick scored the first of his two goals at 4:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zac Frischmon assisted on the tally. Wudrick's next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:01 left in the third period. Louisiana had gotten the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Matt Harrington was sent off for slashing. Frischmon picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Alex Hudson, who had one.

Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Ryan Marcuz, Harrington and Donald Olivieri took 19 of the team's 37 shots.

Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Mosey as well. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Mike Grace and Leo Thomas, who each chipped in one.

Brad Barone recorded 35 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the IceGators, John Daniels was ejected from the game. Garrett Sheehan made 29 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 31 shots. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
