Knoxville erases deficit to stun Louisiana, 4-3

The Louisiana IceGators could not hold down the Knoxville Ice Bears, and Ice Bears erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Knoxville let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Ice Bears took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Zack LaRue at 12:39 in the second period. Knoxville found itself down 2-0 after Louisiana's Luke Sandler put the puck home at 5:01 in the second period. After evening things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jake Hauswirth at 44 seconds in the third, the Ice Bears got the game-winner from Danny Cesarz at 2:05 in the third period.

Knoxville was paced by Cesarz, who racked up one goal.

The Ice Bears' offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.1 shots per game they average.

Knoxville additionally got points from Jake Flegel, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Garrett Vermeersch, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Rich Ledy, Andrew Bonazza, Jason Price, Trever Hertz, and Corey Hale, who each chipped in one.

The IceGators put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.0 they average per game.

Louisiana was helped by Blake Hietala, who had one goal. Hietala scored 4:46 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Mike Kavanagh picked up the assist. Louisiana also got points from Sandler, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Ben Kramer and Jeremy Boyer, who contributed one each.

Knoxville's Brian Billett stopped 35 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Ice Bears incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brad Barone recorded 24 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
