Pensacola vanquishes Macon Mayhem in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

The Pensacola Ice Flyers and Macon Mayhem both failed to score in overtime, but Pensacola won the game 4-3 (2-1 SO) after Corey Banfield's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Macon Mayhem's shootout goal was scored by Shawn Skelly. In addition to the clincher, the Ice Flyers got a shootout goal from Joe Caveney.

Pensacola saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Ice Flyers made the score 3-1 on a goal by Gehrett Sargis at 15:08 in the second period. Macon Mayhem evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jake Trask at 16:03 in the third period.

Banfield had one goal and one assist to lead Pensacola. Banfield scored short handed 8:02 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. A roughing call on Steve Bergin put the Ice Flyers on the penalty kill. Josh Cousineau provided the assist.

The 42 shots that Pensacola put on net surpassed the Ice Flyers' average of 27.3 shots per game this season.

Pensacola was led by Banfield, who tallied one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Adam Pawlick as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Mike Krieg, who had one.

Macon Mayhem relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Skelly, Trask and Daniel Gentzler took 21 of the team's 38 shots.

Macon Mayhem also got points from Skelly, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Macon Mayhem came via Nick Grasso, who had two.

Keegan Asmundson made 35 saves for the Ice Flyers on 38 shots. Pensacola totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Macon Mayhem's Garrett Bartus stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Macon Mayhem totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
