Huge game by Wilson boosts Fayetteville over Columbus, 9-3

Cole Wilson was all over the ice for the Fayetteville FireAntz, as he tallied four goals and one assist in Fayetteville's 9-3 win over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Wilson's first goal came 3:20 into the first period. He then added goals at 23 seconds into the second, at 19:59 into the second, and at 16:28 into the third.

The FireAntz forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. Fayetteville had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The FireAntz's goal total was higher than their season average. Fayetteville averages 3.0 goals per game. The FireAntz put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.9 they average per game.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Berkley Scott, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Derek Elliott, who also had one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Nick Lazorko as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Benjamin Rubin, who had four, Joseph Manno, Tayler Thompson, Brad Plumton, and Zach Carriveau, who each chipped in one, and Nicholas Rivait and Josh McQuade, who contributed two each.

Columbus was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and four majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 32 shots on goal, Columbus exceeded the 26.3 shots it averages per game this year.

The Cottonmouths were helped by Shawn Bates, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bates scored on the power play 5:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dylen McKinlay picked up the assist. Others who scored for Columbus included Louis Belisle and Andy Bathgate, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Al Graves, Andy Willigar, and Tyler Henry, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville's Parker Van Buskirk stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The FireAntz registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Columbus' starting goalie, Shannon Szabados, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Brandon Jaeger, who stopped seven shots. The Cottonmouths registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Columbus, Rusty Hafner was ejected from the game.
