Sandler's big game bests Mississippi RiverKings in 5-1 Louisiana win

The Louisiana IceGators' Luke Sandler had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-1 win over Mississippi RiverKings.

Sandler's tallies came at 5:25 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and short handed 13:35 into the second to make the score 2-1 Louisiana.

Louisiana pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The IceGators stifled Mississippi RiverKings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Louisiana found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the IceGators average 2.4 goals per contest. The 32 shots that Louisiana put on net surpassed the IceGators' average of 24.7 shots per game this season.

Louisiana also got points from John Daniels, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Blake Hietala, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jeremy Boyer, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Jake Hauswirth and Tyler Barr, who contributed one each.

By firing 30 shots on goal, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 23.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Linden Bahm, who scored the team's only goal. Bahm scored 4:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Leo Thomas assisted on the tally.

Louisiana took out Adam Courchaine after he had made five saves and installed Brad Barone in goal, where he finished with 24 saves and the win. The IceGators registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Garrett Sheehan recorded 27 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
