Louisiana vanquishes Mississippi RiverKings in shootout, 1-0 (4-3 SO)

Jeremy Boyer scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Louisiana IceGators picked up the extra point in a 1-0 (4-3 SO) win over Mississippi RiverKings.

The shootout lasted for 30 attempts between the teams. Mississippi RiverKings' shootout goals were scored by Charles Mosey, Linden Bahm, and Devin Mantha. In addition to the clincher, Louisiana got shootout goals from Boyer, Dylan Hood, and Blake Hietala.

The IceGators were boosted by Brad Barone, who turned in a shutout with 41 saves. Barone certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.16 entering the contest.

Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The IceGators' defensive play was more effective than usual against Mississippi RiverKings. Louisiana allows 2.7 goals per game. The 33 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 24.2 shots per game this season.

The IceGators were led by Boyer, who took two shots.

Mississippi RiverKings stifled Louisiana's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi RiverKings could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Mississippi RiverKings puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. Mississippi RiverKings forced the IceGators goalie Barone to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Luke Kasteel, who took five shots.

Louisiana incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mississippi RiverKings' Garrett Sheehan stopped 32 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
