Pensacola rides McLean to victory over Louisiana, 3-1

John McLean had a standout game with 25 saves, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers beat the Louisiana IceGators 3-1.

Pensacola was sparked by Cole Ruwe, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Ruwe scored 11:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Corey Banfield assisted on the tally.

The 40 shots that the Ice Flyers put on net surpassed Pensacola's average of 26.2 shots per game this season.

Pensacola additionally got points from John Clewlow, who also registered one goal and one assist and Banfield, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Pensacola came via Adam Pawlick, who had one.

Louisiana stifled the Ice Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceGators relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jake Hauswirth, Brad Bourke and John Daniels took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Louisiana was led by Jeremy Boyer, who scored the team's only goal. Boyer scored on the power play 12:30 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A verbal abuse of officials penalty on David Segal had put the IceGators on the power play. Hauswirth picked up the assist.

Pensacola totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Louisiana's Brad Barone stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The IceGators totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
