Louisiana beats Columbus 5-0 as Levine gains shutout

Eric Levine recorded a shutout against the Columbus Cottonmouths as the Louisiana IceGators picked up a 5-0 win.

Jeremy Boyer had a great game for Louisiana, netting two goals. Boyer's tallies came at 30 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana and 12:24 into the first to make the score 3-0 Louisiana.

The IceGators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Columbus power plays. Louisiana's defensive effort looked to be improved. The IceGators average 2.7 goals allowed per game. Louisiana outdid its season average for goals scored. The IceGators have scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Louisiana put 46 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.1 it averages per game.

Louisiana also got points from Blake Hietala, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Louisiana also got a goal from John Daniels as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Jake Hauswirth, who had three and Mike Kavanagh, Luke Kasteel, Geordie Wudrick, and Tyler Barr, who contributed one each.

Columbus managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Columbus was held below its usual level of production. The Cottonmouths put an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. With 44 shots on target during the contest, Columbus exceeded the 23.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Cottonmouths were led by Craig Simchuk, who took six shots.

Eric Levine made 44 saves for the IceGators on 44 shots. Louisiana incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Columbus' starting goalie, Shannon Szabados, made 28 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Brandon Jaeger, who stopped 13 shots.
