Macon Mayhem holds on for 4-3 win against Fayetteville

Macon Mayhem survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fayetteville FireAntz on the way to a 4-3 win.

Macon Mayhem made the score 4-2 on a goal by Lucas LaBelle at 8:00 in the third period, and Fayetteville got as close as 4-3 when Josh McQuade scored 8:45 into the third period.

Macon Mayhem was paced by LaBelle, who grabbed one goal.

Macon Mayhem also had goals scored by Michael Montagna, Mike Montrose, and Shawn Skelly, who each put in one. In addition, Macon Mayhem received assists from Vadim Guskov and Ryan Michel, who each chipped in one and Connor P. Toomey, Daniel Gentzler, and Anton Lennartsson, who contributed two each.

The FireAntz stifled Macon Mayhem's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Joseph Manno, Cole Wilson and Kyle Gibbons took 16 of the team's 25 shots.

Fayetteville also got points from McQuade, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Fayetteville came via Nicholas Rivait and Berkley Scott, who each chipped in one.

Macon Mayhem's Garrett Bartus stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Macon Mayhem totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Parker Van Buskirk rejected 24 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and had no power play opportunities.
