Jackson Brewer scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Huntsville also got a shootout goal from Brewer.The Havoc overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Huntsville was down 2-1 after a power play goal by Pensacola's Joe Caveney at 14:51 in the third period. The Havoc tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Nolan Kaiser at 16:31 in the third period. Huntsville's penalty kill excelled, as the Havoc gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Huntsville's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Flyers were unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Havoc eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Huntsville was helped by Jeremy Beirnes, who registered one goal. Beirnes scored 15:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dave Williams picked up the assist. More assists for Huntsville came via Brewer, who had one. Pensacola was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. Pensacola stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Flyers were helped by Corey Banfield, who tallied one goal. Banfield scored 8:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Adam Pawlick assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Mike Krieg, Jeremy Gates, and Nick McParland, who contributed one each. Huntsville's Kevin Genoe stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Havoc registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Matt Zenzola recorded 30 saves for Pensacola.
