Pensacola downs Knoxville, 5-2

Jeremy Gates grabbed two points to lead the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 5-2 victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

In the losing effort, Knoxville was led by Jackson Brewer, who had two goals. Brewer scored the first of his two goals at 10:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Trever Hertz assisted on the tally. Brewer's next tally made the score 2-2 with 11:21 left in the second period. Josh Cousineau picked up the assist.

Pensacola was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Pensacola forced Ice Bears' netminders to work in net, totaling 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Braely Torris made 15 stops and Bryan Hince made 12. The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Bears to score on any of their three power plays.

Pensacola additionally got points from Matt Larke, who also registered one goal and one assist and Paul Rodrigues, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Nick McParland as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Joe Caveney, who had two and Cole Ruwe, Mike Krieg, Joseph Holka, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in one.

Knoxville's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game.

More assists for Knoxville came via Corey Hale, who had one.

Pensacola's Matt Zenzola stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Ice Flyers registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For Knoxville, Corey Fulton was ejected from the game.
