Huntsville's comeback falls short, Fayetteville wins 5-3

The Fayetteville FireAntz, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Huntsville Havoc and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Fayetteville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the FireAntz's Brad Drobot scored on the power play at 10:41 in the second period to put Fayetteville up 3-0.

The FireAntz got the win behind a great game by Zac Frischmon, who had two goals and one assist. Frischmon scored the first of his two goals at 19:11 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Fayetteville. Zach Carriveau provided the assist. Frischmon's next tally made the score 5-3 Fayetteville with 33 seconds left in the third period. A verbal abuse of officials penalty on Will Aide had put Fayetteville on the power play. Nick Lazorko assisted on the tally.

The FireAntz capitalized on Huntsville's penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

Fayetteville also got a goal from Kyle Gibbons as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Josh McQuade, who had two and Berkley Scott, Tayler Thompson, and Brad Plumton, who contributed one each.

The Havoc forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville surpassed its season average of 39.0 penalty minutes per game. The Havoc's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Huntsville averages 2.3 goals allowed per game. By firing 41 shots on goal, the Havoc exceeded the 35.5 shots they average per game this year.

Huntsville was led by Steve Mele, who tallied two goals and one assist. Mele scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fayetteville. The Havoc earned a power play opportunity when Graeme Strukoff was put in the box for cross checking. John Lidgett provided the assist. Mele's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Fayetteville with 54 seconds left in the third period. Brett Lutes also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan and Kyle McNeil, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville's Sean Bonar stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The FireAntz ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Kevin Genoe rejected 24 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Huntsville, Zach Josepher was ejected from the game.
